Vanessa Vergara to moderate panel at "A New Birth of Freedom: The Thirteenth Amendment – Past, Present and Future"
The Thirteenth Amendment not only ended slavery in our country, it also represents a promise of freedom and justice for workers and racial minorities in this country. This symposium will discuss the history of the amendment and its use by supporters of workers' rights and civil rights throughout our history. It will also consider the as yet un-tapped potential of this amendment in the twenty-first century. It also celebrates the late Congressman James Ashley, primary author of the amendment, who represented his native Toledo in Congress. Vanessa Vergara will moderate the panel "The Thirteenth Amendment in the Twenty-First Century." |
