Northwestern Law School Small Business Opportunity Conference

On Saturday, March 1, 2008, Michael Manuel, a principal in Goldberg Kohn's real estate department and head of the Climate Change and Resource Conservation Group, will moderate a panel entitled, "The Business of Climate Change: Combining Profit with Environmentalism to Create Opportunity," at Northwestern Law School's Small Business Opportunity Conference.  Panelists will include Steve Apfelbaum from Applied Ecological Services, Gary Lazarski from Carbon Green LLC, and Craig Sieben from Sieben Energy Associates.  The panel will highlight some of the innovative and unique opportunities for businesses, large and small, that are expected to arise from efforts to deal with global climate change. 

William Loesch, a principal in Goldberg Kohn's corporate department, will also moderate a panel entitled, "Getting Started: Tips for the Early Stage Entrepreneur".  The panel of entrepreneurs and small business experts will cover a wide range of topics including business development, operations, marketing and financing.  The discussion will be geared towards entrepreneurs in the early stage of getting their businesses started.
 
The Conference is hosted annually by Northwestern Law School's Small Business Opportunity Center. The SBOC is a non-profit, student-based clinical program affiliated with the Bluhm Legal Clinic.  The SBOC was the first transactional clinic of its kind at any major law school in the country. Founded in 1997, the SBOC has given law students, working under the supervision of professors, the opportunity to provide legal counsel to hundreds of entrepreneurs and small businesses, on topics ranging from entity formation to licensing and franchising. This year's Conference will feature Howard Tullman as keynote speaker, as well as various panels and workshops.  Additional topics include, among others, obtaining private equity and venture financing, leveraging intellectual property, and cutting edge real estate development.  Admission to the Conference is free for those who register online, or $10 at the door. (Note: The SBOC is hoping to have the conference certified to offer Continuing Legal Education credit.)
