Alan Solow is a principal and co-chairs the firm's Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Group, an area in which he has actively practiced for 25 years. Mr. Solow's representation of secured and unsecured creditors, including indenture trustees, covers the full range of legal services, from workout planning through active participation in bankruptcy cases. Mr. Solow has also undertaken the representation of equity holders and debtors. In recent years, he has been involved in cases not only in Illinois, but also in Delaware, New York, California, Florida, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania and Michigan, among other jurisdictions.

Mr. Solow's original training as a trial lawyer provides him with valuable experience in acting as lead counsel on contested matters and adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. He has litigated issues concerning cash collateral, the automatic stay, fraudulent conveyances, lien priming, preferences and plan confirmation. His background and history of working closely with financial institutions has allowed him to act as a draftsman who can help develop creative solutions to challenging problems in bankruptcy finance. His ability to develop cost-effective methods for maximizing recoveries is recognized both by his clients and by his opponents.

Mr. Solow has maintained a civil litigation practice throughout his career and is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has litigated both jury and bench trials to verdicts and has substantial appellate experience. Although the primary focus of his litigation practice involves financial institutions, he represents other clients in commercial disputes in the state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution.

A widely published author and frequent lecturer, Mr. Solow has been honored for his contributions to the bankruptcy and insolvency field through the election by his peers as a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. He is also included in The Best Lawyers in America. He recently has developed and acted as lead instructor for a workout and bankruptcy course for Commercial Finance Association.

Mr. Solow serves as Chairman of Jewish Community Centers Association of North America and is an active member of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.  He has also held a wide variety of other national and local leadership positions.  His participation in these activities brings additional communal and business perspective to his practice.
