The United States District Court, in conjunction with the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, recognized Goldberg Kohn Principal David Chizewer and former associate Courtney Baron (now with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago) for their exceptional pro bono work at the 17th Annual Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award Ceremony held May 26, 2016.

The Hon. Gary Feinerman presented David and Courtney with the Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service for their outstanding work on behalf of Robert E. Williams in Williams v. Wexford Health Sources, Inc., Case No. 14 C 1113.

Mr. Williams, an inmate at Stateville Correctional Center, filed a civil rights lawsuit against the prison's healthcare provider and state prison officials for denying him the medical care needed to treat his serious and painful medical condition. The defendants repeatedly ignored Mr. Williams's requests for medical attention, and refused to provide him with appropriate or effective medical care. Mr. Williams obtained treatment through the course of his lawsuit, and the parties ultimately reached a settlement in early 2016.

Mr. Chizewer is a principal in the firm's Litigation Group and a nationally recognized trial lawyer featured in the National Law Journal’s list of 10 of the nation’s top litigators.
