On May 26, 2016, Goldberg Kohn Principal David Chizewer was presented with the Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He was honored with former associate Courtney Baron, who is now with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago.

Hon. Gary Feinerman presented David and Courtney with the award for their outstanding work on behalf of Robert E. Williams in Williams v. Wexford Health Sources, Inc., Case No. 14 C 1113.

Mr. Williams, an inmate at Stateville Correctional Center, filed a civil rights lawsuit against the prison's healthcare provider and state prison officials for denying him the medical care needed to treat his serious and painful medical condition. The defendants repeatedly ignored Mr. Williams's requests for medical attention, and refused to provide him with appropriate or effective medical care. Mr. Williams obtained treatment through the course of his lawsuit, and the parties ultimately reached a settlement in early 2016.

Mr. Chizewer is a principal in the firm's Litigation Group and a nationally recognized trial lawyer featured in the National Law Journal’s list of 10 of the nation’s top litigators.
