Fred Klein Co-Authors "General Personal Jurisdiction Over Institutions of Higher Education"

January 9, 2018

Fred Klein, principal in the firm's Litigation Group, recently co-authored "General Personal Jurisdiction Over Institutions of Higher Education," which was published in the January 2018 issue of NACUANOTES. NACUANOTES, published by the National Association of College and University Attorneys, aims to provide practical resources to higher education attorneys for the benefit of the colleges and universities they serve.

"General Personal Jurisdiction Over Institutions of Higher Education," which Klein co-authored with Amanda Penabad, a staff attorney with the Federal Defenders office, and Elizabeth Shanin, a Senior Associate General Counsel for the University of Chicago, examines the impact of the Supreme Court's recent general personal jurisdiction jurisprudence on the traditional exception to the assertion of general personal jurisdiction over institutions of higher education. Because colleges and universities are frequently at risk for being sued outside of their home state, the article provides attorneys working for these institutions a practical analysis to aid in determining the extent to which they might wish to engage in activities that may subject them to general personal jurisdiction outside of their home state.
