David Chizewer, Principal in the firm's Litigation Group, has been named an "Energy and Environmental Trailblazer" by The National Law Journal. The Energy and Environmental Trailblazers are legal professionals who continue to make their mark in various aspects of legal work in the areas of energy and environmental law. Each Trailblazer has shown a deep passion and perseverance in the pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way. 

Mr. Chizewer was named to the list alongside his wife, Debbie Chizewer, an environmental law attorney at the Northwestern Law Environmental Advocacy Center. The Chizewers have done groundbreaking work on behalf of the residents of East Chicago, Indiana. Using advocacy and litigation, they have helped transform the clean-up process and pursued environmental justice for residents of an East Chicago Superfund Site.

Several chemical companies spent decades recklessly and negligently polluting a portion of East Chicago, and in late summer 2016, residents of a local public housing complex received notice that lead and arsenic contamination on the property had reached a level requiring permanent evacuation of their homes.

Goldberg Kohn has filed a lawsuit on behalf of East Chicago homeowners for compensation for property damage and emotional distress. The East Chicago homeowners have been represented pro-bono by Goldberg Kohn.
