Launch of GK Advocates diversity mentoring program is highlighted

November 20, 2019

Chicago Daily Law Bulletin

Goldberg Kohn has launched a new program aimed at recruiting, keeping and promoting a more diverse staff. Leading the effort, branded GK Advocates, is partner Kristen Jones, chair of the firm’s diversity committee. Jones said the firm’s existing diversity efforts were more of a mentorship program with “good bones,” but the new policy, which launched at the beginning of the month, “took it to another level.”

Goldberg Kohn partnered with Diversity Lab to offer the nonprofit organization’s OnTrack professional development program to GK Advocates participants. The partnership was natural, Jones said, and the OnTrack program “fit perfectly” with the goals on GK Advocates. The flexibility of the program gives the seven current participants freedom to have varying goals, she said. “It was important to have a program that was structured but had flexibility to accommodate the entrepreneurial culture of the firm and then also the attorneys that it attracts,” Jones said.

GK Advocates participants will receive career- and business-development training and support as they continue their client work.
