Ming Russell Reflects on Legal Career in UChicago Asian American Heritage Month Panel

May 10, 2022

In the University of Chicago Women+ in Law’s Asian American Heritage Month Panel, Ming Russell shed light on the experience for Asian American women and other minorities pursuing a career in the legal field.

Ming drew upon her own experience as an Asian American woman in the United States to discuss her law school journey, career path and personal endeavors. Ming and the other panelists, Rachel Cheng, associate at Skadden and Sharon Hwang, shareholder at McAndrew, shared their perspectives on various topics, including:

  • Their current role and responsibilities
  • Challenges faced as a minority in the field
  • Advice to law students or young lawyers
  • Identifying and maintaining mentors

Ming is an associate in the firm's Commercial Finance Group. She concentrates her practice on the representation of banks and non-bank financial institutions in structuring, negotiating, and documenting commercial finance transactions. She also has experience representing corporate borrowers in a variety of financing transactions.

The University of Chicago Women+ in Law organization is dedicated to advancing the success of young women and nonbinary students by providing a platform in which the specific concerns and challenges of women in the professional world can be addressed proactively.
