David Chizewer Quoted in Law360 and The Chicago Sun-Times on Dispute over Scrap Metal Facility Move
David Chizewer, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group, was recently quoted in Law360 and The Chicago Sun-Times over a push to block the move of the General Iron scrap metal facility owned by Reserve Management Group to a new location on Chicago's South Side. U.S. District Judge Mary Rowland recently heard arguments in a dispute over the move, which cited concerns over pollution and donations from the facility’s operator made to city officials. Despite opposition, the move of General Iron is underway, and the judge urged counsel to address the city’s assertion that it’s up to the Chicago Department of Public Health to review the company’s final permit to authorize the move.
Chizewer said, “We have to grapple with the facts here, and what this company has done to model and make both expensive and serious and sincere efforts to make sure that their operation will be within the standard of human health." A ruling is expected in the case in April 2021.
