Benjamin W. Chertok is an Associate in the firm's Litigation Group. He represents and advises clients in all phases of the litigation process, including each stage of pretrial and trial work in both state and federal courts. 

Mr. Chertok is experienced in defending major companies against employment discrimination claims and he regularly defends various financial services and capital management companies against warranty and indemnity claims. He also represents and advises charter schools in a variety of legal matters and represents clients in False Claims Act matters.

Prior to joining Goldberg Kohn in September 2022, Mr. Chertok was an associate at Dykema, where he was involved in various areas of litigation, including real estate disputes, statutory claims and contract litigation, automotive, insurance defense, tort claims, and defense of abuse and misconduct allegations. 

Mr. Chertok earned his J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, cum laude, in 2020. While in law school, he competed with the Moot Court Society and served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. He also clerked for the Cook County State's Attorney’s Office in the Criminal Appeals Division and obtained a 711 license, which he used to appear in court to defend clients against felony charges on behalf of the Public Defender’s Office. There, he achieved several courtroom victories for his clients at trial as well as through numerous substantive pre-trial motions that led to favorable dispositions.

In his final year of law school, Mr. Chertok handled complex litigation and investor protection matters, representing victims of fraud. During that time, he became a certified Mediator through the Center for Conflict Resolution and mediated a wide variety of cases in Chicago’s Daley Center Courthouse, including small claims matters, breach of contract disputes and landlord-tenant litigation.

Prior to pursuing his legal career, Mr. Chertok worked as a Government Compliance Consultant at Non Profit Capital Management, LLC. He earned his B.S., summa cum laude, in Government & Psychology from Suffolk University in 2015.
