Kristen Jones is a principal in the firm's Litigation and Labor & Employment Groups.  Ms. Jones' experience includes litigation of actions in jurisdictions throughout the country involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act (including class actions), the Equal Pay Act, breach of covenants-not-to-compete or other restrictive covenants, and various state law discrimination and wage and hour claims.  Ms. Jones represents clients before state and federal courts throughout the country, in addition to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and state fair employment practices agencies.  Ms. Jones also has commercial litigation experience, including representing clients at arbitration hearings for breach of contract disputes.   

Ms. Jones utilizes her employment litigation experience to counsel clients on terminations, personnel issues, wage and hour issues and their employment practices and policies in an effort to assist clients with avoiding litigation and minimizing exposure in the event of litigation.  Ms. Jones also effectively partners with her clients to conduct internal investigations and assist clients with uncovering facts to make informed decisions regarding personnel situations.   Additionally, Ms. Jones drafts and reviews employers’ handbooks and policy manuals; conducts FLSA classification audits; drafts employment and service agreements based on clients' individualized needs; and provides training to client workforces, including on the topics of anti-harassment and anti-discrimination.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Jones was a juvenile defender with Northwestern Law's Children and Family Justice Center where she represented juveniles in delinquency court, at parole hearings and other post-disposition hearings, and she assisted with the development of policy in the area of juvenile parole.

Ms. Jones is admitted to practice in Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Northern District of Indiana, Western District of Michigan, Seventh Circuit and Tenth Circuit. She received her law degree, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law in 2009, and her B.A., with departmental honors, from Stanford University in 2005 in Political Science and Spanish/Latin American Studies. While attending Northwestern, Ms. Jones served as a comment editor for the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. Ms. Jones currently serves as the Chair of the firm's Diversity Committee, serves on the Board of the Stanford Black Alumni Association of Chicago (SBAA-C) and served as the SBAA-C President from 2016-2018.  Ms. Jones was named a 2018 Rising Star by Super Lawyers

  • Shaw v. Abbott Laboratories, Inc. et al. (C.D. Cal. 2018 No. 17-4783 SS): Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of disability discrimination, failure to prevent discrimination, and retaliation in violation of Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA) and California Family Rights Act (CFRA).
  • Villacreses v. Abbott Laboratorieset al. (Orange County Superior Court of California 2016 No. 30-2015-00810047-CU-OE-CJC):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of disability discrimination, harassment, retaliation, failure to prevent discrimination and harassment, and California Family Rights Act (CFRA) interference and retaliation.
  • Zafar v. Abbott Laboratories(W.D. Mich. 2016 No. 15-cv-0361):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of race, national origin and age discrimination.
  • Didier v. Abbvie Inc.et al. (D. Kan. 2014 No. 13-cv-2046):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of gender and religious discrimination and retaliation and FMLA retaliation and interference. This judgment was appealed and the decision was affirmed by the Tenth Circuit. (10th Cir. 2015 No. 14-3125)
  • Adams v. Abbott Laboratories (N.D. Ill. 2014 No. 11-cv-6739):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of gender discrimination and violation of the Equal Pay Act.
  • Hutt v. Abbott Laboratories Inc.et al.(N.D. Ind. 2013 No. 10-cv-204):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of age discrimination and retaliation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and violation of the Indiana Wage Payment Act.  This judgment was appealed, and the decision was affirmed by the Seventh Circuit. (7th Cir. 2014  No. 13-1481).
  • Franchini v. UChicago Argonne, LLC (N.D. Ill. 2013 No. 12-cv-279):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claims of national origin discrimination and harassment and retaliation.
  • Hubbard v. Abbott Laboratories (N.D. Ill. 2013 No. 12-cv-3426):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claim of race discrimination. 
  • McMillan vs. Abbott Laboratories Inc., et al.(W.D. Wash. 2013 No. 10-cv-1708 RAJ):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claim of age discrimination. 
  • Farrell v. Abbott Laboratories Inc.(W.D. Penn. 2011 No. 11-cv-120):  Obtained summary judgment for employer against plaintiff asserting claim of gender discrimination.
