Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law Announce Goldberg Kohn Foundation & Fred Cohen Fellowship

June 14, 2016

The Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law held its 2016 benefit at the Hyatt Regency on June 14th. The Shriver Center provides national leadership in advancing laws and policies that secure justice to improve the lives and opportunities of people living in poverty. Goldberg Kohn is a long-time supporter of the Shriver Center. Over 500 people attended the benefit including Christopher Kennedy, Sargent Shriver's nephew, and a long-time benefactor of the Center; numerous local politicians; Chicago media personalities including Richard Steele; and a who's who of Chicago attorneys, including Goldberg Kohn's own Fred Klein, Randy Klein, Bill Meyers, and David Chizewer. The honorees were John Levi, Sidley Austin partner and Chairman of the Legal Services Corporation's Board of Directors, and Martha Minow, Dean of Harvard Law School and Vice Chair of LSC's Board of Directors.  During his presentation, the Shriver Center's executive director, John Bouman, announced the creation of the multi-year Goldberg Kohn Foundation & Fred Cohen Fellowship.  John described the fellowship as the Goldberg Kohn Foundation's contribution to continue the legacy of Fred, who had worked tirelessly to litigate a case that made access to health care, for all children living in poverty in Illinois, a reality.  It was a moving tribute. Dana Cohen, Fred's wife, and Fred's mother, Marva, were also in attendance.
