
Zachary Garrett is a Principal in the firm's Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Group. He represents a broad range of clients, including secured and unsecured creditors, purchasers and assignees, in all aspects of commercial workouts and corporate bankruptcies, including restructurings, reorganizations, sales and liquidations.
Mr. Garrett's workout experience includes the negotiation and documentation of out-of-court restructurings and liquidations, including through forbearance agreements, UCC sales, receiverships, and assignments for the benefit of creditors. His bankruptcy experience includes the negotiation, documentation, and litigation of debtor-in-possession financing, cash collateral use, collateral valuation, asset sales, and relief from the automatic stay.
Mr. Garrett currently serves as the Chair of the Editorial Board for the DailyDAC website, a leading source of information for business owners and vulture investors about assignments, Article 9, bankruptcy, receiverships, out-of-court workouts and vulture investing.
In 2022 Mr. Garrett was recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law. As an associate, he was nominated to participate in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges' 2013 Next Generation Program, which recognizes up-and-coming bankruptcy attorneys for their professional accomplishments and potential to distinguish themselves in future years as highly respected members of the bankruptcy bar.
He has been active in the Turnaround Management Association, having served as Vice President of Communications for the Chicago/Midwest Chapter. He authored "Might vs. Right: Pledged Stock, Voting Rights & the Doctrine of Record Ownership," published in The Turnaround Management Association's Journal of Corporate Renewal, Aug. 2010.
Mr. Garrett joined Goldberg Kohn in May 2008. He received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2008, where he served as contributing editor of the Journal of Law Reform. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science and Philosophy from Hope College in 2005, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Garrett is admitted to practice in Illinois.
