A Goldberg Kohn and Mesirow Financial deal team took top honors in two categories at the recent M&A Advisor’s 4th Annual Distressed Investing Conference and Turnaround Awards Gala.

Our deal team won both "Distressed M&A Deal of the Year (Below $100 million)" and the "Media, Entertainment and Telecom Deal of the Year" for the 2009 acquisition of Sun-Times Media Group.

Deals were evaluated on their importance to the industry, creativity and resourcefulness, and perseverance. An independent body of experts, who represented a cross-section of the turnaround industry, determined the recipients.  Finalists represented over 30 firms in 27 categories in the distressed investing, restructuring and turnaround marketplace.

"In 2009 there were more than 1.4 million bankruptcies, but there were also thousands of successful turnarounds, thanks to the professionals in the turnaround industry," said Roger Aguinaldo, CEO of The M&A Advisor. "It is an honor to recognize the achievements and accomplishments of the Goldberg Kohn and Mesirow Financial team. Despite these hard economic times, they have been able to restructure and rebuild, setting an industry standard for their influential deals in the industry."
