Overview

Lauren Penland is an Associate in the Corporate Practice Group. She advises clients in a variety of industries on corporate governance and other general corporate matters at all stages, from incorporation to exit or dissolution.

Lauren is experienced in advising clients on U.S. federal income tax and state income tax matters, and has represented individuals and companies in front of the Internal Revenue Service and the Illinois Department of Revenue regarding audit determinations and appeals.

Professional Background

Lauren joined Goldberg Kohn in February 2024. Previously, she practiced corporate, taxation and real estate law with a mid-sized Chicago law firm as well as worked at KPMG performing due diligence and tax-efficient structuring on cross-border deals.

While in law school, Lauren served as a judicial extern to Hon. Michael F. Otto where she assisted with commercial cases involving employment discrimination, contract disputes and real estate matters. She also practiced as a licensed student attorney with the Community Enterprise & Solidarity Economy Clinic at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law where she counseled small businesses and cooperatives, advising in the areas of taxation, employment matters and trademarks.
