Michael Manuel is a Counselor in the firm's Real Estate Group. With more than 30 years of experience in real estate law, he represents commercial real estate owners, developers, investors and operators in the full range of commercial real estate transactions, including purchases and sales, leasing, mortgage and mezzanine finance, syndications, joint ventures, negotiating and closing transactions, restructuring, workouts, bankruptcy and foreclosures.

In addition, Mr. Manuel heads the firm's Climate Change & Resource Conservation Group, which was formed to assist clients in preparing for change and to provide counsel in leading edge sectors, such as carbon trading, renewable energy production and transmission, and clean technology finance. In 2018 he co-founded Tsuga Investors, which is a platform for capitalizing on convergent opportunities in commercial real estate and renewable energy, particularly solar distributed generation. His speaking engagements have included "Rooftop Solar From A Real Estate Perspective," presented at the 2014 Energy, Utility & Environment Conference in Phoenix.

Mr. Manuel joined Goldberg Kohn in May 1987. He earned his J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1988, where he was an associate editor for the Northwestern University Law Review. He obtained his B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan in 1983.

Mr. Manuel is a former board member of the Chicago Access Corporation, which oversees CAN TV, a non-profit, quasi-governmental corporation that provides cable television access to Chicago residents, and not-for-profit, arts, social, political and other community organizations.
