Urban Prep Academies hosted it's annual graduation ceremony on June 17, 2017, and honored Goldberg Kohn with the Urban Prep Academies Founder's Medal. The Founder's medal is an award established in 2010 to recognize Urban Prep supporters and partners who have most significantly impacted Urban Prep and their mission to provide high-quality and comprehensive education to their students which will further their graduates success in college.

Goldberg Kohn was recognized for its pro bono work, management of myriad legal matters, advocacy and "sage counsel during very challenging times." Meredith Kirshenbaum, an associate in the firm's Litigation Group, accepted the award on behalf of the firm. Meredith, Mike Sullivan and Jon Klinghoffer, all members of the firm's Litigation and Labor & Employment groups, have been instrumental in the work for Urban Prep Academies.

Urban Prep Academies is a non-profit organization that operates a network of all boys public schools including the country's first charter high school for boys. Urban Prep students often live in underserved neighborhoods that have been plagued with violence and turmoil; in fact, Urban Prep recently lost their eighth student to gun violence since 2014.

While most of Urban Prep's students come to the school from economically disadvantaged households and behind in many subjects, Urban Prep has remarkably achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate for its graduates over the past eight consecutive years.

Mike Sullivan, who has represented Urban Prep for many years, had this to say about the award: "It is our firm's great honor to work with Urban Prep, given our great respect for the incredible work its teachers, staff and administrators do every day under very challenging circumstances. Receiving the Founder's Medal is a particular honor and we thank them very much for including us in their inspirational commencement ceremony. 100 percent matters."
