Tax-Exempt Finance
Attorneys in Goldberg Kohn's Tax-Exempt Finance Group represent issuers, borrowers, underwriters and credit enhancers in municipal finance transactions, including issuances of general obligation bonds, tender notes, special facility revenue bonds, general obligation refunding bonds, limited tax bonds, unlimited tax bonds with a designated revenue source, and industrial revenue bonds. The firm has previously represented borrowers for several non-profit and charter school bond issues in the State of Illinois. Goldberg Kohn has also acted as issuer's counsel for the Illinois Finance Authority on a number of transactions in the education, health care and other fields.
Representative Matters
- Worked on transactions for the benefit of municipal, corporate and not-for-profit borrowers, including, among others, the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, the State of Illinois, Waste Management Inc., the United Way of Chicago, the Merit School of Music and the Chinese American Service League.
- Acted on behalf of the Illinois Finance Authority for multiple bond offerings for the benefit of the University of Chicago, the OSF Healthcare System and the Illinois-American Water Company.
- Structured and negotiated the first charter school bond issue in the State of Illinois and the first offering of investment grade charter school bonds involving multiple campuses in the country.
- Assisted in structuring a settlement and buyout of a group of bond-financed hospitals in the Southeast.
